When the World Glitches, Pay Attention

We are taught to treat distortions as errors — as failures of perception, lapses in attention, or malfunctions of the mind.
But distortions are not mistakes.
They are messages.

A distortion is what happens when the architecture of seeing momentarily loses its composure.
The predictive machinery stutters.
The model misaligns.
The world flickers, revealing the scaffolding beneath.

Most people look away.
They prefer the illusion of stability.
They prefer a world that behaves.

But the Divergent Ledger was founded on a different premise:

Every distortion is a revelation in disguise.

A revelation of what?
Of the architecture.

Distortions reveal the seams in the story we call “reality.”
They show us where the architecture bends, where the predictive model overreaches, where the self edits the world to preserve coherence.

And if we pay attention, distortions can teach us more about perception than accuracy ever could.

Accuracy is comfortable.
Accuracy is obedient.
Accuracy tells us nothing about the system that produces it.

Distortion, on the other hand, exposes the system’s limits.
It shows us where the architecture strains.
It reveals the assumptions that hold the world together.
